- OBITUARY FOR FRANK PRESTON:
THESSALON, Sept 7 - The death occurred at Thessalon after a lingering illness, Friday, August 23, of Frank Preston. Frank was born October 11, 1896 at Napinka, Manitoba, and came to Algoma with his parents in 1897 and resided in Thessalon till the time of his death. He was married to Mabel Vera Brandon in 1921. Besides his wife, he is survived by 3 daughters - Mabel (Mrs. G Allen), of Sault Ste Marie, Frances and Geraldine and a foster daughter Margaret Harriet, at home; 2 sisters, Mrs Herbert Spencer and Calista of Benton Harbor [MI]; 1 brother, Herbert of Buffalo.
As a young man Frank drove the local bus for John Jackson, whereby his never failing good humour and readiness to serve one and all, he won a host of friends, among the travelling public as well as at home. On 1927 he was employed with S. H. Mills as a salesman, later buying a share in the business. From 1933 til 1938 he owned and operated a grocery store at Thessalon Station.
- NEWSPAPER CLIPPING 1940
DAYTON Aug 26 - It is our sad duty today to tender the sympathy of our community to Mrs. Frank Preston and her daughters in the loss of husband and father. Thessalon, on Friday, lost one of her finest citizens when Frank passed on to receive his Master's "Well done! Good and faithful servant!" We have known him since boyhood, in fact he was an old pupil and we have never known anything but good of him. A genial chap, he was a general favourite in his varied lines of work: work which has always kept him meeting the public. For years he drove bus for John Jackson - to and from station to town. As a storekeeper he was always popular, and he was one car salesman about whom no wisecracks could be made. The car he sold was exactly as he declared it to be. Deer hunting this fall will not be the same to alot of the boys because Frank will not be there. Six of his best friends carried his casket today. Steve Mills, his partner in Mills Motors, Mac Clark, Doug McCrea, N. C. Smith, Tim Coyne and Fred Meyers.
