    • 1950 - Engagement Announcement - Nanaimo Daily News, Nanaimo, British Columbia, Canada - 10 Nov 1950, Fri • Page 6
ENGAGEMENT Mrs.. L, Allen of Wellington, wishes to announce the engagement of her elder daughter Lois Gwendoline to Mr. Hugh Frederick Matthews, only son of Mrs. F. Matthews, Wellington and Mr. F. Matthews of Kamloops. The wedding plans are to be announced later.
    • From Lois: "Bob and I joined a circus that was owned by a friend of dad's when I was 13, 14 and 15. We travelled by train across Canada into Ontario and back each year. Starting in May and getting back the end of Sept. We earned a lot of money for kids in those days and it was enough to pay for school and extra for Mom. I sold hot dogs and Bob ran one of the rides. We were best friends all our lives. I sure miss him. When we were young we went everywhere together. He stayed home until I was married and Shirley was graduated."
    • About 1995, Lois visited Cecil Allen in Ireland and Nolene Bell in Australia. She shared much of her information with Harvey and Mary Allen in Iron Bridge and Mary has shared much of that information with me.
